The first webinar introduces the longitudinal Taking Boys Seriously (TBS) participatory action research initiative that spans twenty years in Northern Ireland. TBS has engaged directly with thousands of adolescent boys and their educators across formal and informal education with a focus on removing the bricks that make it more difficult for some boys to progress through formal education. Participants will be invited to reflect on and share how key themes from the research are realised within their educational context including:

Appreciative inquiry as a strengths-based and affirmative approach to continuous improvement; The 10 TBS principles of relational education; Building a localised educational ecosystem to harness collective capacities.

Whether you're a school leader, teacher, youth work manager, youth worker or education professional, this webinar offers an opportunity to connect with leading research from Northern Ireland that underpins a UK-wide Boys' Impact movement and responds directly to tackling compounded educational disadvantage experienced by large numbers of boys and young men.

The second webinar explores the theme of being a boy and masculinities in education. Affirmation of young men and masculinities is considered alongside a zero-tolerance approach to harmful behaviours. The session will include:

Reflection on how gender shapes experiences of education; Identifying masculine contradictions that boys and young men are confronted with, and how to respond relationally; Adopting a gender conscious lens as educators.

Engage with examples from practice that have started small and scaled to both inform and be informed by the TBS research. Stories will come from across the educational ecosystem with inputs from mainstream school, EOTAS, youth work and higher education settings. The session will focus on:

Collaborative working across the educational ecosystem; Practice informing research and research informing practice; Stories of hope for transforming the experiences of boys on the margins.

TPL Thursdays! - Taking Boys Seriously: Empowering Boys using the Boys' & Young Men's Quadrant

The final webinar explores the theme of empowering boys in education, drawing on the evidence-based Boys' & Young Men's Quadrant. The Quadrant is a new online resource for educators. It includes the Empowering Boys Questionnaire, tested with over 1100 students, with 25 scaled questions that invites reflections on voice, influence, interdependence, belonging and being a boy in schools. The webinar will include:

An opportunity to complete the Empowering Boys Questionnaire from the perspective of a young person faced with compounded educational disadvantage; Engagement with intentional practice resources from https://www.theboyquadrant.org/intentional-practice; Guidance on how to implement the Boys' & Young Men's Quadrant to embed and enhance relational empowerment within your educational context.
