TPL Thursdays! is a programme of bitesize professional learning designed to support the busy teacher. Webinars take place on a Thursday afternoon between 3.45 pm and 4.30 pm. These short sessions are focused on ideas and practice that can be implemented immediately in the classroom with the intention of impacting on pupil outcomes.

The first webinar in the series begins with a clear overview of the statutory requirements surrounding the Community of Lifesavers programme and what they mean for schools. Led by CCEA's Liam Dempsey and Julie Gray, this session will unpack the legislation, outline schools' responsibilities and introduce the full suite of CCEA resources designed to support implementation - including the Community of Lifesavers app. Participants will leave with a confident understanding of the expectations, available tools and how to begin embedding lifesaving education within their school community.

Presenter:  Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Community Resuscitation Lead Michael Allen

This session explores the 'What' of the Community of Lifesavers programme - what pupils are expected to learn, what lifesaving knowledge and skills look like in practice and what schools need to deliver high-quality CPR and AED education at Key Stage 3.

Led by the Community Resuscitation Lead from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), the session will unpack the core components of CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) awareness, reflecting regional initiatives that aim to strengthen community readiness to respond to cardiac arrest. Participants will gain clarity on what constitutes effective lifesaving education, how it aligns with the statutory curriculum requirements introduced in 2022 and what practical, accessible approaches can be used in classrooms to empower young people to act in an emergency.
